Shipping a motor vehicle into the UK
Motor vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, and we can usually help with most of them.
To provide you with a quote for the shipping of this vehicle, please can you advise the following pieces of information:
- Year, Make and Model of the Vehicle
e.g. 1998 Land Rover Defender 2.5 TD 90
- Dimensions of the vehicle (L x W x H in CMs)
(if the vehicle is a motorcycle, please include the dimensions of the crate)
- Gross / Kerb Weight (Kgs)
Any modifications to consider when shipping e.g. Standard ? (e.g. Body Kit/Skirts/Spoilers, Lowering, Wide tyres, Tow-Bar, Winch, bull-bars, Roof-Rack etc.)
- Condition of the vehicle
e.g.Runs, exterior and interior consistent with age/use, non-runner, new/mint/showroom, condition consistent with age i.e. a few minor dents and scratches
- Value of the vehicle (for insurance purposes
e.g. USD …
- Which Port is the closest Port to the seller of the vehicle?
- Would you be looking for a Roll-on/Roll-off (Ferry-type service) or would this car need to be shipped in a Container (a slightly more expensive, but more secure service)?
- Where are you in the UK? (so that if there is an option of UK Port, we can select the closest one to you)
- Please advise if this vehicle is being imported for Private or Commercial Use (incl. resale)?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL VEHICLES!
We strongly recommend that all motorcycles be crated to minimise any damage during transit. All vehicles/trailers MUST be shipped empty. Any spares or personal effects must be declared (and preferably shipped on a separate pallet these will still be shipped with the vehicle). When shipping by air or by Sea, we will need a ‘Drain and Disconnect’ Declaration/Letter, stating that the battery has been disconnected and the vehicle has been drained of fuel*.
The vehicles must be clean (free-from Mud/Dirt) and all related Original documents will need to be delivered to a nominated warehouse near to the Port of departure. Once received, the warehouse operator will complete a condition report and take photos.
For vehicles being permanently exported from the Country of despatch, all the necessary export documentation will then be raised, and the title surrendered for export before being loaded into the Container, chocked and strapped, parking brake(s) disengaged, battery disconnected and drained of fluids (less than ¼ tank), if not already done so by the shipper (minimal being left for loading/unloading)*. If this is not done, then you will be charged for the removal and disposal at an approved commercial waste site.
Top tip: Condensation can build up inside a vehicle, inside the Container, therefore, why not buy a cat-litter tray and some cat-litter, and place this in a foot-well to absorb the moisture.
*Exceptions apply to goods being shipped as Roll-On/Roll-Off (RORO), as the vehicle will need to be driven on to the ship at the time of sailing. The specific requirements of this service will usually be discussed directly between our agent’s local office and the shipper.

As far as the actual shipping is concerned, there are several otions available. These are:
- Full Container Load (FCL)
This is where your car will be in a Container on its own.
- Shared Container Load (LCL)
This is a similar service to the above, but as it indicated in the name, your vehicle will be in Container with other vehicles/goods
- Air Cargo
This is the quickest method of shipping any vehicle, but is also usually the most expensive
- By Road
By road this means the vehicle is either towed or on the back of truck/transporter
- Drive, Sail or Fly
This depends on the type of vehicle it is. If it is a road-vehicle, then this would usually either be via the Eurotunnel or via ferry. If it is a boat, then sailed into a Port/Harbour or Marina and if it is an aircraft, then flown into one of the UK’s airfields/aerodromes
